Executive Director

As the Executive Director of the Henry R. Kravis Prize in Nonprofit Leadership, Kim leads the effort to identify extraordinary nonprofit leaders, celebrate their accomplishments, and share their best practices with others.  Kim is also a consultant to nonprofits, philanthropists and foundations on topics of strategy, board governance, evaluation and organizational effectiveness.  As an advisor to philanthropists, Kim has overseen more than $180 million in grants to organizations focused on poverty alleviation, education, and public health.  Kim is a Visiting Practitioner at Stanford University’s Center for Philanthropy and Civil Society (PACS) and is a frequent contributor to the Stanford Social Innovation Review (SSIR).  She serves on the board of The Thrive Foundation for Youth.

Previously, Kim consulted to private sector firms as well as nonprofit organizations while at McKinsey & Company in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Kim also worked for the Roberts Enterprise Development Fund (REDF) as a Farber Fellow.  A Harry S. Truman Scholar, Kim obtained an M.B.A. from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, an M.Sc. in Economics for Development from the University of Oxford, and an M.Sc. in International Relations from the London School of Economics.

Dorothy Buchanan

Prize Liaison to Claremont McKenna College

Dorothy Buchanan is Claremont McKenna College’s Liaison to the Kravis Prize. She has worked for the College for 10 years and currently serves as the Director of Events and Stewardship. Dorothy’s extensive background in event management, project coordination, and scheduling provides key support to the Kravis Prize team, in planning and administering the Prize and its related events.

Associate Director of External Relations at Claremont McKenna College

n her capacity as Associate Director of External Relations at Claremont McKenna College, Alia Kate is responsible for developing unique programming that brings the Claremont McKenna community in direct contact with these Kravis Prize leaders around the world, on campus, and virtually. These connections allow students to engage in CMC’s changemaking vision through Kravis Prize internship experiences, and participating in Kravis Prize capacity building retreats and speaker’s series hosted at Claremont McKenna College. Alia also oversees communications for the Kravis Prize, through online and social platforms.

Prior to joining the Kravis Prize Team, Alia owned and ran her own fair trade design business, created curriculum for experiential educational opportunities with high school and college students living and traveling abroad, and led international trips that focused on participatory development models as it relates to business and entrepreneurship in the developing world. Alia was also a founding board member for the international development nonprofit, CorpsAfrica. Alia holds a B.A. from Oberlin College in Politics with a concentration in International Relations, focusing on the Middle East and North Africa.
